Live the history of the wine world by visiting 2 of the most important wine regions in the world, Bordeaux in France and Rioja in Spain. On this week-long tour we will discover the secrets of Bordeaux wine, its different regions and local gastronomy. Then we will continue towards Rioja where we will discover the Tempranillo grape from Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa.

Welcome to the Tour for wine lovers. Travel through the vineyards of Bordeaux and the landscape of Rioja to learn and discover the history, culture and flavors of wine in these two wine regions. Two of the best-known and most important wine regions in the world.

For 8 days you will discover the different Bordeaux wine areas such as Saint-Émilion or Sauternes, you will enjoy local food with fantastic gastronomic experiences such as a welcome and farewell dinner, a picnic in a Chateau, a lunch in a typical Basque cider house or a traditional meal in a Rioja winery. We will compare the wines produced in Bordeaux and Rioja and learn about the historical relationship between these wine regions.

Day 1 Bordeaux

Welcome to Bordeaux. Land of wine and history. Today we will meet at the hotel to have a welcome meeting and meet the Guide. During this, we will discuss the trip and the scheduled activities.

After the meeting we will have time to explore the old town of Bordeaux before going to a restaurant and enjoying a menu with local products. This will be the first contact with local wines.

Day 2 Médoc & St Émillion

After breakfast, we will embark on the first day’s excursion out of Bordeaux. Today we will focus on two of the most famous wine regions in Bordeaux, Médoc and St Emillion. We will do a tasting at a Chateau paired with a picnic made with local products. During the afternoon we will have time to discover the charming St Emillion, before returning to Bordeaux where you will have the night at leisure.

Day 3 Sauternes

Today, after our breakfast at the hotel, we will discover the wine region south of Bordeaux, in the Sauternes area. Known for the incredible sweet wines made from the Semillon variety, Sauternes is located southeast of the city and is the area where the first vines in the region were grown 2,000 years ago. We will visit a Sauternes Wine Chateau and you will taste some of the wonderful sweet wines. After the visit, we’ll return to Bordeaux, where you’ll have time to explore La Cité du Vin, one of the most impressive wine museums in the world (entrance included). Free night.

Day 4 Rioja

Say À bientôt to France and Hello to Spain. Today, after breakfast, we will travel south to Spain. The first stop in the country will be food related, of course! We will visit a traditional cider house in the Basque Country, where we will enjoy a traditional cider house menu with chorizo, cod omelette, fried cod with peppers, steak and dessert, paired with the house’s natural cider. Yeah! Everything is included in the menu, welcome to the Basque Country!

In the afternoon, after lunch, we will continue our trip to Logroño, the main city of Rioja. Maybe it’s the perfect time to have your first nap on the bus. Here, after a relaxing time, we will explore the old town and end the day looking for the best pintxos in the city and to drink our first Rioja.

Day 5 Rioja

Today we will continue the route through Rioja, where we will be able to see some of the most beautiful towns in the region. Today, we will also pass by the Marqués de Riscal winery, one of the oldest in Rioja and where we will have a panoramic view of the luxurious hotel designed by architect Frank Gehery. After the visit and tasting at a family winery, we will enjoy a tasting menu in the restaurant of one of the most emblematic wineries in Rioja, pairing local products with its excellent wine. In the afternoon, before returning to Logroño where you will have the rest of the afternoon free.

Day 6 Bilbao

In the morning, on the way to Bilbao, we will stop in the famous Barrio de la Estación, in Haro, where you will enjoy tasting a couple of wines at one of the most important wineries in the region. You will have some free time in case you want to do some more wine tasting in one of the very important wineries that are concentrated here, before continuing on to Bilbao. It takes just an hour and a half to reach the capital of Biscay. In it we can discover after a walk its beautiful estuary with the Guggenheim Museum as its emblem, its old town and the historic taverns of the center with its typical pintxo-pote (drink+lid). Although remember that today to say goodbye to the trip, we will have dinner at a restaurant with a high-quality tasting menu.
